Sequence 6:
In Sequence 6, your character faces their lowest point yet. This is the lead-up to the Act Two turning point, and the emotional descent must feel real to your reader.
This is the breakdown before the breakthrough, what’s known as the dark night of the soul.
Your protagonist might isolate herself, experience betrayal, or confront a lie she’s been living with. Don’t hold back here; let your character fall apart, along with your reader. The scenes should boil with shame, regret, or guilt. Make your reader cry!
Focus on how these emotions lead to a decision or a moment of reflection. The breakdown needs to clear the way for a new truth, something they’ll carry into the climax.
Act Two: Sequence 6
Emotional Focus: The reader should feel heartbreak, hopelessness, or even a sense of emotional numbness. This is the emotional rock bottom—a quiet collapse or loud crash. Let the audience grieve with the character.
This sequence ends with the turning point into Act Three. Something changes. The character sees something differently, maybe for the first time.
Don’t forget to outline these scenes in Sequence 6 with emotional labels before you write.
Happy Writing!
